Large quarto (13 by 10 inches) 1851. Illustrated with 6 coloured plates, 26 fine engraved plates, all with tissue guards, and 10 engravings of sculptures plus many text illustrations.

Handsomely bound in contemporary half red morocco with an elaborate gilt spine, marbled boards and endpapers. Covers with a little light rubbing.

The beautiful engraved plates are of paintings by J M W Turner, Edwin Landseer, Clarkson Stanfield and other leading artists. The text includes a few short pieces on photography. Note that this is the scarce Art Journal for 1851 and not the Catalogue of the Industry of all Nations issued in the same year and which is very common. An unusually nice clean copy in a very attractive binding.
