A handsome and well-illustrated work printed on high-quality art paper and bound in the original cloth. The contents are very clean and free from internal marks signatures or inscriptions. The book describes in detail an unsuccessful attempt to reach the North Pole and records the wildlife, equipment and the ferocious weather-some of his men froze to death whilst trying to reach the Pole on sledges. Paper at the inner hinges cracked but the joints are sound and firm, small private library label inside each front cover, free endpapers toned, covers with minor rubbing, each spine with a small circular paper label.
