overall size 43 by 52 cms (17 by 20.5 inches) This large antique copper engraved print shows the town of Linlithgow as it was in 1693. The plates first appeared in 1693 in Theatrum Scotiae which was the first pictorial survey of Scotland. This is an early edition, possibly a first. If it is a later re-issue it is pre-1760 as it's on laid paper which was gradually replaced by wove paper from around 1760. A fine dark impression with wide margins and a clear plate mark. The reverse is blank There is a centre fold, as usual, which has a small repair to the reverse, there is a split in the fold in the lower blank margin and some short tears to the blank outer margins
