There are 3 coloured folding maps, a coloured plate and 105 text and full-page illustrations. It's bound in the original red cloth, all edges gilt. two volumes, large thick octavo 26 by 19 cms (10.2 by 7.5 inches) An unusually nice, clean and complete set, the inner hinges firm and sound, no splits or cracks, the bindings bright and unmarked A classic of African exploration. Much scarcer than the ordinary trade edition. Slight lean to both volumes, one of the folding maps is loose, there is some foxing, heavy on a few pages, a small name stamp on the reverse of each frontispiece, one of the folding maps has a tear about 15 cms long which has a tape repair on the reverse and and also has two small splits.
